ERIK

“Oh, Killstrike” #1 (of 4)

Oh Killstrike

This summer, Boom Studios presents, a love letter / parody of the ridiculousness that was 90’s vigilante comics, by Max Bemis and Logan Faerber! “Oh, Killstrike” is a twisted buddy comedy about a guy named Jared, a new father, who accidentally unleashes his childhood anti-hero on an unsuspecting world. He must go on a quest of self discovery to protect his loved ones from this over-the-top army of one! Seriously guys, I can’t put into words how much I’m looking forward to getting my hands on this series!

THE ULTIMATE MARVEL OMNIBUS!

Ultimate Marvel Omnibus Vol. 1 HC

Ultimate Marvel has gotten a (much deserved) bad rep since Ultimatum, so it’s easy to forget that (15 years ago) it actually started as something quite different — and more importantly, REALLY good! Back in 2000, Marvel kicked off this re-imagined / modernized universe in response to the renewed interest in Super Hero movies thanks to Bryan Singer’s X-Men and Sam Raimi’s Spider-man.

This massive Hard Cover collection includes the first runs of Ultimate Spider-man (Brian Michael Bendis / Mark Bagley), Ultimate X-Men, Ultimate Fantastic Four, and The Ultimates! – with the united talents of: Brian Michael Bendis, Mark Bagley, Bill Jemas, Mark Millar, Adam Kubert, Andy Kubert, and Bryan Hitch! Before the Ultimate Universe comes to a close in this year’s Secret Wars, read where it all began!

SONS OF THE DEVIL, Image Comics                        (W Brian Buccellato A Toni Infante)

SONS OF THE DEVIL is an exploration into the dark side of human psychology. It’s a grounded take on cults that balances the real world with the supernatural. It’s gritty, character-driven, and tonally lays somewhere between SOUTHERN BASTARDS and NAILBITER.

Harrow County, Dark Horse Comics                          (W Bullen Bunn A Tyler Crook)

Emmy always knew that the deep, dark woods surrounding her home crawled with ghosts, goblins, and zombies. But on the eve of her eighteenth birthday, she learns that she is connected to these creatures—and to the land itself—in a way she never imagined.

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency (IDW)

STK671465     I love Douglas Adams and have read all of the Hitchhiker’s Guide books, but have never heard of his character, Dirk Gently, who has been in 2 of his novels.  I’m really looking forward to seeing this in comic book form and discovering a new story based on Douglas Adams’ holistic detective.  It starts off with him arriving in San Diego to face a new country, new cases, and new threats like reincarnation! (Subscription cover by Rob “Chew” Guillory!)

The Mantle (Image Comics)STK671620

Ed Brisson (writer of Comeback, Sheltered, Cluster, etc.) has always done right by me so I look forward to any new series he has coming out, and this one sounds fantastic!  a young guy is walking home from a concert and gets struck by lightning only to wake and find out he has been chosen as the next host for the “mantle”, a very large power set. He barely has time to comprehend what’s happening to him when an evil villain shows up who has killed every previous host of the mantle in the past 50 years! This makes me think of the mini-series, Imperial (which I loved), and I can’t wait to check this out!

CHEW “Cases of the FDA” Card Game

STK671073Yes Chew, my favorite comic book, has a card game coming out! Be prepared to see me every week at Superhero Hive playing this game and teaching people how to play!

Here’s the synopsis- “Welcome to the FDA. As a Food and Drug Administration agent, it’s your job to investigate food-related crimes. From deep-fried fingers to murdered mascots you’ll need to enlist help from the likes of Tony Chu, Mason Savoy, Poyo, and more in a fast-paced, highlaughs, take-that card game designed by Kevin Wilson (Arkham Horror, X-Files, Descent). In CHEW: Cases of the FDA, you’ll work to solve a case pulled straight from the pages of the Eisner Award-winning comic series. Whether it’s finding clues, recruiting allies with amazing food-related super powers, or sabotaging your opponents, each round you’ll work to close the book on your particular investigation before your opponents can swoop in and steal your spot as the top-food-cop in town. And the best part? The box is chockfull of CHOGS (Half-chicken, half-frog, all-adorable)!”
